Mariposa Ascendente Outdoor Classroom
The Mariposa Ascendente Regenerative Agriculture Garden and Classroom at Arbol Farm is a living demonstration of how healthy land, community learning, and food security can flourish together. Designed in the shape of a butterfly, this unique outdoor space showcases regenerative agriculture and permaculture principles in a way that engages the senses and inspires action.
A Space for Learning, Growing, and Sharing
The Outdoor Classroom is more than a garden—it’s a hub for community connection. Here, visitors can explore:
Regenerative demonstration gardens featuring pollinator plantings, a Three Sisters Garden, berms and swales, alley-cropping, and other practices that heal the land and support biodiversity.
A timber-frame community classroom for workshops, conversations, and skill-building.
Integrated food crops that nourish the community and teach sustainable growing methods.
Building Land Health & Community Resilience
The garden and classroom bring together farmers, gardeners, students, and volunteers to learn techniques that:
Improve soil and ecosystem health
Boost farm and garden productivity
Support pollinators and other beneficial wildlife
Strengthen local food systems and rural resilience
Supporting Food Security
Through partnerships with local food-sharing programs, surplus produce from the garden—and from community members—flows into area food pantries and nutrition programs, ensuring fresh, healthy food reaches those who need it most.
Get Involved
During the summer, the garden welcomes the community for Wednesday evening gatherings from 5–7:30 PM. Volunteers help care for the garden, share in conversation, and learn hands-on skills that can be applied at home or on the farm.
This space continues to grow thanks to the dedication of community members, AmeriCorps service, and local partnerships. Your support helps maintain and expand the gardens, complete the classroom space, and keep this outdoor learning hub thriving for years to come.
